App Store screenshot requirements
A pre-submission checklist, checked against Apple's specifications and App Review Guidelines on 2026-08-12.
Technical requirements
- Format. JPEG or PNG. No alpha channel or transparency; App Store Connect blocks the upload otherwise.
- Exact dimensions. Each screenshot must match an accepted size for its display class exactly. See the full size tables.
- Required sets. One 6.9-inch iPhone set (1320 x 2868, 1290 x 2796, or 1260 x 2736), plus one 13-inch iPad set (2064 x 2752 or 2048 x 2732) if your app runs on iPad.
- Count. 1 to 10 per display size. The first 3 portrait screenshots appear in App Store search results.
Content rules (App Review)
- Show the app in use. Guideline 2.3.3 requires screenshots to reflect the app being used, not just title art, login screens, or splash pages. Marketing text, backgrounds, and device frames are fine when real UI stays the focus.
- Be accurate. Screenshots that promise features the app does not have fall under 2.3, one of the most common rejection categories.
- No placeholder content. Lorem ipsum, empty states, or debug data read as an unfinished app.
- Apple devices only. If you show hardware, it must be Apple hardware, current-generation, and the UI shown must match the platform.
- Age-appropriate. Screenshots must fit a 4+ rating even if the app itself is rated higher.
The pre-submission checklist
- Every image is JPEG or PNG with no transparency.
- Every image matches an accepted pixel size exactly.
- The 6.9" set exists; the 13" iPad set exists if the app runs on iPad.
- Every screenshot shows real, current app UI.
- The first 3 screenshots communicate the core value on their own.
- No feature is shown that is not in this build.
- Localized sets are updated everywhere the UI changed.
