App Store screenshot layouts
Adoption data from 1031 top-chart iOS apps analyzed in August 2026.
Nearly every App Store screenshot on the top charts is built from one of eight layout archetypes, and nearly every set follows one of three structures. This glossary defines each one, shows how common it is across the corpus, and explains when to use it.
Layout archetypes
How a single screenshot arranges headline and device:
- Text top, device bottom70% of corpus
A screenshot layout with the headline in the top third and a phone mockup below it, usually cropped by the bottom edge.
- Text bottom, device top4% of corpus
The inverted classic: the phone mockup hangs from the top edge and the headline sits underneath it.
- Tilted 3D device4% of corpus
A screenshot layout where the phone mockup is rotated in perspective, adding depth and motion to the panel.
- Panoramic continuation0% of corpus
A layout where one visual element (a device, illustration, or background) spans across two or more adjacent screenshots.
- Full-bleed UI3% of corpus
The app UI fills the entire screenshot with no device frame, often with a headline overlaid on top.
- Lifestyle photo composite7% of corpus
A layout that combines photography of people, places, or products with the app UI, usually a device floating over the photo.
- Text only1% of corpus
A screenshot with no UI at all: a headline, sometimes supporting copy or ratings, on a designed background.
- Multi-device collage5% of corpus
Two or more device mockups (or overlapping UI cards) arranged in one screenshot to show several screens at once.
