Practical guide

Upload screenshots to App Store Connect.

Use Apple's website for any finished set. Use Screenies to replace the English screenshots for a linked app, with a preview and a saved backup.

Prepare the files and listing

Apple accepts 1 to 10 screenshots per set in PNG, JPG, or JPEG format. Check exact dimensions against the size guide or run your files through the free checker. Apple's screenshot specifications are the source for device requirements.

Choose an editable app version. Apple permits screenshot uploads for Account Holder, Admin, App Manager, and Marketing roles. Approved versions need a new version to change screenshots. Check Apple's upload rules.

Upload on Apple's website

  1. In App Store Connect, open Apps and select your app. Open its iOS version in the sidebar.
  2. Choose the listing language at the top right. In Previews and Screenshots, choose iPhone or iPad.
  3. Drag your images into the matching device area. Use View All Sizes in Media Manager for custom device sets.
  4. Put the screenshots in the intended order and check each preview. Repeat for each language and device set.

Follow Apple's manual upload instructions. For translated files from Screenies, choose the matching locale for each downloaded set.

Upload a completed batch from Screenies

Your workspace needs a qualifying completed credit purchase. Upload, backup restore, and draft version creation have no extra credit charge. Access stays available after the purchased credits are spent. Workspace permissions and Apple API permissions still apply.

  1. Connect your Apple team. In App Store Connect, an Account Holder or Admin can create a Team Key under Users and Access, Integrations. Screenies recommends the Admin role for its combined metrics and upload features. Add the Key ID, Issuer ID, and private .p8 file in Screenies workspace settings, under App Store Connect. Select Connect key. Team keys cover the Apple team's apps. Read Apple's API key instructions.
  2. Link the correct app. Use the App Store app selector in Screenies to choose the Apple app record for your app. Check the name and app identity before proceeding.
  3. Open a completed English batch. Select Upload to App Store. Check the version number and its editable status. If no editable version exists, prepare a draft version before retrying.
  4. Read the replacement preview. Check the device size, slide count, and current screenshots. Screenies uploads the batch to en-US. Translated sets need the manual workflow above.
  5. Confirm the replacement. Select the Replace screenshots button only when the preview is correct. Screenies saves a copy of the current screenshots before deleting them. Read the result for any failure or recovery action.

Check the result before submission

  • Open the same app version in App Store Connect. Check the language, device size, image count, and order.
  • Open each image to check text, screen content, and orientation.
  • If a Screenies upload fails, inspect the result before retrying. Use the saved backup restore option when needed, then check Apple's listing again.
  • Complete your app review submission separately. An uploaded screenshot set does not mean your app is submitted or published.

If the upload does not work

No editable version
Check the app version state. Prepare a new draft when the current version cannot accept screenshot changes.
Wrong dimensions
Check the actual exported file in the size checker. Match its device family and orientation to the selected slot.
Missing app or denied access
Check the connected Apple team, key status, app link, and permissions. A working key for another team cannot upload to this app.
Wrong language
Screenies direct upload targets en-US. Upload other languages manually to their matching App Store locales.

Prepare the next screenshot set

Use the iPad screenshot generator for tablet layouts, or translate the headlines in a finished English batch.
